Hi there

First time on here so here goes!!

My husband and I are going to Mauritius for 3 weeks in August, I have an Australian Passport and my husband a UK one, will we need visas? Also does anyone know how many Aussie Dollars to the MUR?? How expensive is it there for food and drinks? Can I take UK pounds and change them up or should we just use the ATMs at the airport??

Thanks help

You don't need a visa if you have a confirmed return flight.

You can use the ATMs at the airport, no need to bring cash. For the exchange rate, see this page:

Outside the luxury resorts, food and drinks aren't expensive.

Hi,

Exchange rate: 1 AUD = Rs 25 MUR approx. This can be lower in Banks.

Food and drinks are affordable here and you can have fast foods in most of the towns.

You can bring pounds or AUD with you. Usaully hotels , taxis and even car hire will accept payment in Foreign currency.

Thanking you

Jos

As said the $Aus hovers around 25 rupees. You can change cash at the airport - all the major banks have tellers as you come out. Ask for some small notes as you'll find 100, 200 and even 500 rupee notes better in most instances.

They stamp your passport with the visa when you enter at immigration.

Some current prices which you might find of interest :
Phoenix Beer approx 39mr for 700ml bottle
Bottled water from about 12mr per 1.5 litre bottle at supermarkets.
Rum about 100mr upwards. You can get Goodwill for about 90mr which is popular with locals. Try a few different ones for yourself.
Bread - baguette around 11mr
Cigarettes - about 90mr a pack (very cheap compared to Australia)
Petrol - was 39mr a litre last month - may have gone up.
Restaurant meals from around 120mr upwards. You can still get decent Bryani for about 85mr and mine (mein) often cheaper. Dining out is relatively cheap compared to Australia.
Car hire ranges from about 700mr / day up, depending on season, etc. You may be able to talk it down in August as it's not peak season.
Bus from Grand Bay to Port Louis about 30mr each way per adult.
Some products like decent meat, some fish etc is similar price to Australia and a lot is much cheaper - sugar, eggs, bread, butter is much cheaper (whereas margarine is about same price).

You'll enjoy your 3 weeks I'm sure.

Hello There

Enjoy your trip to Mauritius.
You can always use an ATM but exchange rates and bank rates are high so you would automatically get less than if u bring cash and exchange it.
1au$= rs 26.5 1 UK Pound= Rs 54.3
The best spot to stay is around GBaie....Lots of Bars, Pubs and nightlife. You can also find some very quiet spots for getaways.
Its always good to have a car to go around the island which is really amazing.
Have a good holidays.
